Linkedin corporation reid hoffman8/31/2023 That's what got me to my view of how the world of work was changing. You're piecing together pieces of information. So I was looking for some people who had expertise in the banking industry, some in the regulatory industry, some in the Internet industry, some in the payment industry. People had not solved the PayPal problem before. While I was at PayPal, I saw how I was operating, how was I solving my problems. The rocket is about to start taking off." When I decided to leave Socialnet to start another business, I went to Peter and he said, "No, don't do that yet. While I was doing Socialnet, a close friend of mine from Stanford, Peter Thiel, had started a small hedge fund and met another guy named Max Levchin. We thought we were going to partner with newspapers, and that didn't work. How do you get to millions of users, and tens of millions? We had a bad model at Socialnet. The lesson I learned was that, as much as you are building a really great product, you have to understand your product distribution strategy. But the first time you do anything, you learn lots and lots of lessons. We raised money from some very good venture capitalists. It also had some activities like finding golf partners and roommates and that kind of stuff. The idea of Socialnet was that you have millions of people all publishing online, so what kind of applications can you build to connect them? Socialnet focused on online dating. In August I started my first company, Socialnet. I really wanted to get out there and start creating new businesses, so I resigned my Fujitsu position in July 1997. I watched the whole online market heating up. After Apple, I went to Fujitsu for product management and the business side. The first step was pure software development. I started with a checklist of all the things I needed to learn in order to do startups. I found a really good opportunity through the roommate of a good friend of mine from Stanford. So then I networked my way to a job at Apple ( AAPL, Fortune 500). You've done this before, yes?" I said, "No, not really."And they said, "Go get a job first." They said, "Have you shipped software before? You're asking us to invest millions of dollars in your company. I networked my way to a couple of different venture capitalists. Because I had been at Stanford, I thought about starting a software company. Studying at Oxford, I realized I wanted to have a much broader relevance in people's lives. This was when America Online was starting to drop floppy disks to everybody to try to get people online. It was the beginning of the online revolution, in 1993. Hoffman recently sat down with to discuss his entrepreneurial journey. There, he immediately started tapping into his connections to pursue his dream of starting a software company. In the early 1990s, after a stint studying philosophy at Oxford and planning an academic life, he changed course and returned to Silicon Valley. Beyond LinkedIn, the entrepreneur is also an active investor, advising and funding more than 60 Silicon Valley startups, including Facebook. Profitable since 2006, LinkedIn's management says, the company raised nearly $80 million from investors last year, valuing it at $1 billion.įrom the beginning, Hoffman, a Stanford graduate, understood the importance of building and leveraging his network. In just six years, the Mountain View, Calif., company has become one of Silicon Valley's stalwarts, with 350 employees and a brand recognized throughout corporate America. Its 41 million members include people from more than 200 countries and executives from every Fortune 500 company. Hoffman, 41, started LinkedIn, the social networking site for professionals. Reid Hoffman knows a little something about that. () - In Silicon Valley, it's all about knowing the right people. Memories of alhambra soompi8/31/2023 It has several sweet moments as well as sad ones, as the characters try to overcome the hurdle of the impossibility of this situation. She thinks, looks, and acts like a real human, which is why Joo Sung can’t help but fall in love with her. This 12-episode web drama is about a computer programmer named Joo Sung ( Kyuhyun) and a cyborg woman named Bong Soon ( Yoon So Hee) who is programmed to shut down the minute she feels emotions of love. It’s a chaotic ride, but one that perhaps shows us a glimpse of how dating in the future will be like. The story tells about the possibilities of love between a human who’s jaded and a robot that is humane, while also dabbling on the issue of robotics assimilating with humans. Jaded by her unrequited efforts in love, she vows never to get interested in being in a relationship, that is, until she meets a humanoid called “Zero Nine” ( Yeo Jin Goo). In “Absolute Boyfriend,” Dada ( Minah) is a professional makeup artist who has been secretly dating a celebrity ( Hong Jong Hyun) for several years until he decides to break up with her because he chooses fame over love. A female bodyguard ( Gong Seung Yeon) gets suspicious of the android while trying to protect him from the people who attempted to murder the real heir, but will she be able to resist his charm? With robots being made with more realistic appearances and precision these days, it can be possible that we’re entering an era where it’s going to be hard to tell if we’re interacting with humans or with human-like AI! The scientist is a member of a rich family and her purpose in creating an android son is to maintain his position in business and claim an inheritance. In “Are You Human Too?” a renowned scientist and artificial intelligence expert copes with her son falling into a coma by building an AI robot modeled after him (both played by Seo Kang Joon). But will she choose the real person behind the AI - when Holo himself starts developing human-like emotions and feelings for her? The drama asks, “Can a human and AI fall in an imperfect love?” Holo is programmed to act and think like he has feelings, but those are not supposed to be “actual feelings.” The two become close as Holo becomes a source of comfort and companion for Seoyeon, but without her knowing, Holo looks exactly like his creator (both played by Yoon Hyun Min), who gets attracted to her. She becomes a beta tester for AI Holo, who she sees whenever she puts on her glasses. Because she doesn’t want people to know about her secret, she keeps a tough exterior and presents herself as someone who doesn’t care about forming close relationships. Seoyeon ( Go Sung Hee) is a lonely woman who has a problem recognizing faces. But have you ever thought about the possibility of love between humans and AI (or any other man/technology-made non-human form)? If you’re a fan of the sci-fi genre, romance fantasy, stories about love in a dystopian world, or just simply looking for a quick escape, here are some K-drama recommendations that can keep you company as you stay at home: “My Holo Love” We’ve seen romance dramas that often tackle themes of opposites: rich and poor, somebody famous and an ordinary person, or simply different personalities. Or at least we’re getting a glimpse of it through K-dramas. It’s 2021 - and while we’re not yet flying in our daily commutes, going to aerospace homes, or living a life like the Jetsons, it cannot be denied that with today’s advancements in science and technology, we can see that the future is here. Necessary endings download8/31/2023 In fact, making endings a normal occurrence is essential for reaching your full potential. If you want to be happy or fulfilled, you’ll need to make similar decisions over and over again. He’d already tried his best and there was nothing more he could do to improve the situation. It turned out OK because today, Blaire is one of America’s top bond professionals.īlaire told Cloud that although he was tempted to turn the chemical business around, he realized that it would be a waste of time. On the other hand, Blaire felt like it was time for him to make a change before anything bad happened and decided that selling his company was best at this point in time. Blaire didn’t want to lose all the money he’d invested in his company, as well as having other reasons for sticking it out with this endeavor for just a little longer. He noticed that sales were starting to decline, so he did some research and found out that the process he was selling would soon become obsolete due to technological advancement. Why Endings Are Necessaryīlaire is a friend of Henry Cloud’s who had his own business. He also explains how we can end things tactfully and still maintain our dignity while doing so. He says that endings are important in life because they help us move forward without being stuck. In this book, Henry Cloud helps people come to terms with the necessity of ending certain relationships and gives them tips on how to do so. It’s difficult to let go of these things, but it will make room for more fulfilling relationships and projects in your life. You have limited time and energy, so you need to regularly evaluate the people in your life as well as the groups or endeavors that are taking up too much of your resources. By doing this, they free up resources for healthy buds to grow into mature plants. Therefore, those who take care of the roses will regularly remove dead branches or sickly buds because they aren’t going anywhere anyway. However, not all buds can be nourished at once because resources are limited. The ones with the most flowers must have been fed and nurtured by their caretakers. Have you ever been to a rose garden? If so, you probably noticed that some bushes had more flowers than others. 1-Page Summary of Necessary Endings Introduction Dee snider strangeland medicine8/31/2023 Sometimes people are being modified against their will, and sometimes it’s what they want for better or worse, but no matter what, the modifications are always so extreme as to not be something that professional body modification artists or medical professionals can or would legally or ethically do. Think or movies like Strangeland, Tusk, Repo! The Genetic Opera, or American Mary for good examples of the subgenre. However, in order to qualify as horror, the modding has to be a bit more extreme than all that, or not of the modified’s own free will. Think ear pointing, body piercings, implants, and the like. So, let’s start with body modification – this covers the territory of body modifications that might involve piercing or even be surgical in nature. This lesson will cover intentional body modification and medical body horror – so strap in folks, cuz shit’s gonna get weird. No? How about The Body Horror Learning Annex? Is that better? Ugh, whatever. Standard horror movie score is slightly improved upon by the inclusion of Goth-influenced heavy metal, including a Snider original over the end credits, an element that is likely to be the only thing Twisted Sister fans will enjoy.Welcome back to the International School of Body Horror – which is what I’m calling this for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Otherwise, tech credits are straight-to-video sloppy, with the editing particularly loose and imprecise. Yugoslavian lenser Goran Pavicevic does a solid, if not particularly imaginative, job of shooting the gruesome torture. Snider is also literally kept in the dark for first half of the film, a particularly strange choice considering he reps the only would-be B.O. Snider tries hard, but his constant sneering and muscle-flexing are more cliched than frightening, and his thick Long Island accent more suited for a sports-talk DJ than an emissary of evil. The clumsy dialogue, ridiculous plot and slow-motion direction defeat the actors, with talented indie actress Elizabeth Pena seeming particularly lost playing Gage’s long-suffering wife. Its half-hearted attempts at suspense sequences are borrowed from “The Silence of the Lambs” and “Seven,” and allow the audience to stay at least 10 steps ahead of the dimwitted detectives. It is hard to say which is the film’s biggest crime: not being scary or not being funny. Pic ends indecisively: It’s unclear whether Howdy is dead or kept alive for a sequel that no one will ever ask for. Howdy quickly extracts revenge on the would-be vigilantes, then re-kidnaps the detective’s daughter, leading to another limp face-off between Howdy and Gage. The hanging doesn’t kill him, and somehow the benign-looking Carleton Hendricks has a serial-killer makeover, compete with the facial tattoos, piercings and hairdo. It’s left open as to whether Howdy, properly medicated, is truly reformed, but it doesn’t matter: Within hours of his return home, he’s hanged from a tree by an angry mob led by a redneck (Robert Englund, trading in his Freddy Krueger claws for a beer bottle). Unaccountably, the child-murdering Howdy, having traded in his bright-red dreadlocks for an Ichabod Crane-style ponytail, is released from the institution in less then four years. Despite his ineptitude, Gage finds the culprit and his captive daughter in the film’s first 45 minutes, resulting in Howdy being hauled off to a loony bin. Howdy, make a date and, before you can sing a line of “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” one of the girls (Linda Cardellini) is strung up by her wrists with her lips sown shut.Īny potential is quickly doused when story switches gears and becomes a badly staged police procedural documenting the bumbling work of detectives Christian (Brett Harrelson) and Gage (Kevin Gage), the latter of whom just happens to be the captive girl’s father. Initial five minutes provide the only real scares: Two young girls innocently flirt in an Internet chat-room with someone named Capt. Catuaba narcolepsy cataplexy8/31/2023 Additionally, docking studies suggest the phenyl side groups of Tyr407 and Tyr444 (for MAO-A) or Tyr398 and Tyr435 (for MAO-B) play an important role in the interaction of the enzyme with 1,4-NQ scaffold through forces of dispersion as verified for menadione, TMN and 1,4-NQ. Fluorescence and molecular modeling data indicated that these inhibitors interact with the flavin moiety at the active site of the enzyme. Contrasting with TMN and 1,4-NQ, menadione exhibited a 60-fold selectivity for MAO-B (K(i)=0.4 μM) in comparison with MAO-A (K(i)=26 μM), which makes it as selective as rasagiline. Herein we show that MAO-B was inhibited competitively by 1,4-NQ (K(i)=1.4 μM) whereas MAO-A was inhibited by non-competitive mechanism (K(i)=7.7 μM). Menadione (2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone) is a multitarget drug that acts as a precursor of vitamin K and an inducer of mitochondrial permeability transition. Combining molecular modeling tools and biochemical assays we evaluate the kinetic and molecular details of the inhibition of human MAO by 1,4-NQ, comparing it with TMN and menadione. The discovery of 2,3,6-trimethyl-1,4-naphthoquinone (TMN) as a nonselective and reversible inhibitor of MAO, has suggested 1,4-naphthoquinone (1,4-NQ) as a potential scaffold for designing new MAO inhibitors. Monoamine oxidase ( MAO) catalyzes the oxidative deamination of biogenic and exogenous amines and its inhibitors have therapeutic value for several conditions including affective disorders, stroke, neurodegenerative diseases and aging. Molecular insights into human monoamine oxidase ( MAO) inhibition by 1,4-naphthoquinone: evidences for menadione (vitamin K3) acting as a competitive and reversible inhibitor of MAO.Ĭoelho Cerqueira, Eduardo Netz, Paulo Augusto Diniz, Cristiane Petry do Canto, Vanessa Follmer, Cristian The slightly different binding pose of 18 into the MAO-B active site seems to be forced by a bulkier Tyr residue, which replaces a smaller Ile residue present in MAO-A. In contrast, compound 7 places its phenyl ring into an aromatic cage of the MAO-B binding pocket, where it forms charge-transfer interactions. This H-bond is absent in the 7/ MAO-A complex. Compound 18 forms an H-bond with Gln215 through its protonated amino group into the MAO-A binding site. Docking and molecular dynamics simulations gave structural insights into the MAO-A and MAO-B selectivity. N-Methyl,N-(benzyl),N-(pyrrol-2-ylmethyl)amine (7) and N-(2-benzyl),N-(1-methylpyrrol-2-ylmethyl)amine (18) were the most selective MAO-B (7, SI = 0.0057) and MAO-A (18, SI = 12500) inhibitors, respectively. La Regina, Giuseppe Silvestri, Romano Artico, Marino Lavecchia, Antonio Novellino, Ettore Befani, Olivia Turini, Paola Agostinelli, EnzoĪ series of new pyrrole derivatives have been synthesized and evaluated for their monoamine oxidase ( MAO) A and B inhibitory activity and selectivity. New pyrrole inhibitors of monoamine oxidase: synthesis, biological evaluation, and structural determinants of MAO-A and MAO-B selectivity. Thus has a dual function for both therapy and diagnosis. NMI can also be used as a non-invasive imaging tool. In conclusion, we have identified MAO A inhibitors as potential novel stand-alone drugs or as combination therapy with low dose TMZ for drug-resistant gliomas. Immunocytochemistry studies showed that the MAO A inhibitor reduced proliferation, microvessel density and invasion, and increased macrophage infiltration. NMI was localized specifically to the tumor. Using the intracranial TMZ-resistant glioma model, clorgyline or NMI alone or in combination with low-dose TMZ reduced tumor growth and increased animal survival. MAO A inhibitors, clorgyline or the near-infrared-dye MHI-148 conjugated to clorgyline (NMI), were cytotoxic for glioma and decreased invasion in vitro. This study shows that MAO A expression is increased in human glioma tissues and cell lines. Monoamine Oxidase A ( MAO A) oxidizes monoamine neurotransmitters resulting in reactive oxygen species which cause cancer. Tumors usually become resistant to TMZ and recur no effective therapy is then available. Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive brain tumor which is currently treated with temozolomide (TMZ). Monoamine oxidase A ( MAO A) inhibitors decrease glioma progression Review spark amp8/31/2023 The modeling reminds me of my ancient (2003? 2004?) kidney-shaped Pod 2.0 but sounds a gazillion times better. When it comes to what an audience will here, they won't know the difference. But for the price they sure sound pretty darned close and it's fun being able to match different amps with different cabinets, among other things. A lot of the presets need some tweaking as well.ĭo they sound exactly like a tube amp? Of course not. Updating it is stupid easy unless it's the absolute oldest version and even then it just requires a PC and a USB cable (no clue if it works on a Mac).įor whatever reason the default factory settings for the global EQ sounds like crap and just has to be changed to a different setting. And I have to point out that whatever is on the display at the guitar store probably does NOT have upgraded firmware. Any review before then is fairly worthless. Fender fixed a LOT of the issues with firmware updates (and added a bunch of new amp models and effects), with the latest version being released in October 2018. There are a lot of bad reviews for them out there, but most are from the early releases with original firmware. I'm getting an uneasy feeling since the "ships in December" ones haven't shipped yet.įor what it's worth I have both the 40w and 100w Fender Mustang GT's and love them. I'm waiting on mine and it was supposed to ship in January. Yes you can put any FX pedals in front of the Spark amp, but please also note that overdrive/distortion pedals are preloaded within some presets on the Spark, at this point you need to bypass them on the signal chain first to ensure that you won't get too much gain through the amp. There's only one 3.5mm/Stereo output jack on the Spark amp and unfortunately it's not possible to add a jack socket to allow any extentions. Just got this prompt response from positive grid Got an email early March saying delivery put back till May however the web page was still conning people claiming delivery in March/April -shameful way of getting more orders! I ordered one in early Feb, web site said delivery in March. As it doesn't have foot switch capabilities I was thinking of using the spark in a clean amp set up and use external pedals to change the sound. Q2 Does the Spark handle overdrive/distortion pedals in front of it well. Q1 is it possible to easily add a jack socket to allow a larger extention speaker to be used. I imagine if it is not loud enough then it may be due to the small speaker. it is advertised as 40 watts so should be. I have read that the Spark is not loud enough to use with a drummer.
