Review spark amp8/31/2023 The modeling reminds me of my ancient (2003? 2004?) kidney-shaped Pod 2.0 but sounds a gazillion times better. When it comes to what an audience will here, they won't know the difference. But for the price they sure sound pretty darned close and it's fun being able to match different amps with different cabinets, among other things. A lot of the presets need some tweaking as well.ĭo they sound exactly like a tube amp? Of course not. Updating it is stupid easy unless it's the absolute oldest version and even then it just requires a PC and a USB cable (no clue if it works on a Mac).įor whatever reason the default factory settings for the global EQ sounds like crap and just has to be changed to a different setting. And I have to point out that whatever is on the display at the guitar store probably does NOT have upgraded firmware. Any review before then is fairly worthless. Fender fixed a LOT of the issues with firmware updates (and added a bunch of new amp models and effects), with the latest version being released in October 2018. There are a lot of bad reviews for them out there, but most are from the early releases with original firmware. I'm getting an uneasy feeling since the "ships in December" ones haven't shipped yet.įor what it's worth I have both the 40w and 100w Fender Mustang GT's and love them. I'm waiting on mine and it was supposed to ship in January. Yes you can put any FX pedals in front of the Spark amp, but please also note that overdrive/distortion pedals are preloaded within some presets on the Spark, at this point you need to bypass them on the signal chain first to ensure that you won't get too much gain through the amp. There's only one 3.5mm/Stereo output jack on the Spark amp and unfortunately it's not possible to add a jack socket to allow any extentions. Just got this prompt response from positive grid Got an email early March saying delivery put back till May however the web page was still conning people claiming delivery in March/April -shameful way of getting more orders! I ordered one in early Feb, web site said delivery in March. As it doesn't have foot switch capabilities I was thinking of using the spark in a clean amp set up and use external pedals to change the sound. ![]() Q2 Does the Spark handle overdrive/distortion pedals in front of it well. Q1 is it possible to easily add a jack socket to allow a larger extention speaker to be used. I imagine if it is not loud enough then it may be due to the small speaker. it is advertised as 40 watts so should be. ![]() I have read that the Spark is not loud enough to use with a drummer.
